Boron subchloride

When a mixture of boron trichloride vapour and hydrogen at the ordinary temperature is subjected to the action of the silent electric discharge, a pale yellow, transparent substance is produced which contains fewer than three atoms of chlorine per atom of boron. It is rapidly decomposed by water, hydrogen being evolved and a solution obtained which possesses marked reducing properties.
