Boron thiocyanate, B(CNS)3
Boron thiocyanate, B(CNS)3, is produced by shaking silver thiocyanate with a solution of boron tribromide in benzene, and separates from benzene in short, glistening, rhombic crystals. From ether it crystallises in thin plates. The thiocyanate is rapidly hydrolysed by water, and its action upon aniline indicates that it possesses the structure of a thiocyanate rather than that of a thiocarbimide.
